Danish Brotherhood
Lodge #14
Kenosha, Wisconsin

The seeds of the Danish Brotherhood were planted in the 1870's when thousands of people were leaving their native Denmark to find greater opportunities in the United States and Canada. The immigrants came with a love for the traditions and culture of their native land and hopes and dreams for the opportunities they could find in their new home. But the language and the culture were new and they needed the help, support and companionship of those who shared their common interests.

The Danish Brotherhood was conceived in 1882 by men of Danish birth who had immigrated to America. Since then, people of Danish descent, their spouses and children, and relatives of members have joined hands through a chain of lodges located in Denmark, Canada, and throughout the United States. Many lodges have opened their doors to friends of the organization as well.

Our purpose is to invite all eligible people into this great fraternal society. We aim to strengthen the ties of friendship and mutual understanding between our members and the people of America, to honestly support and abide by the laws of our country, and to preserve precious customs and traditions originating in Denmark.

To the best of our ability, we assist our members during illness and distress. Above all, we strive to live clean and wholesome lives. We fervently desire all our members to cooperated in extending good fellowship and timely assistance to fellow members.

Over 125 years have passed since a group of people - beginning their new life in a new land - formed a brotherhood to help each other. The story of those years is a story of growth and changes, and striving to meet the needs of people in a rapidly changing world. But most of all, it's a story of people working together and sharing a commitment to preserve their heritage while pursuing their dreams in their new home.

Our Lodge Hall

Built in 1910, the first tenants were Schend Confectionery and Paul Larsen Dry Goods. Later came Bernacchi's Pharmacy and Neilsen's Bakery. In 1951 the two stores were made into one for Mr. Beracchi, who was a tenant for over 40 years. In 1976 it became a gift shop and office supply store.

In 1990 we rented to "Tommorow's Woman", a bridal boutique and dress shop. They had completely remodeled the first floor and basement, and we had a new canopy installed. We currently have "Bravo Bridal Boutique" as our tenant.

We are very proud of our building and glad that our pioneer members had the foresight to build it.
