We're getting famous!  I just received an email from a gentleman about our breakfast.  He has fond memories of coming to our Lodge and sent me this article.  http://www.eatgreatfood.net/eat-great-food/2010/02/aebleskivers.html .  Click on the link for the article.  It is ironic that I received this the day before our Spring Breakfast.

Danish Brotherhood Lodge #14 won 3 out of 4 catagories in the national competition sponsored by Woodman of the World for the National Lodge of the Year.  Our awards, $250.00 per catagory, is to be donated to the charity of our choice.  The DB#14 Board of Directors recommended and the membership voted to donate the money ($750.00) to the Southport Lighthouse Keeper's House restoration. Pictures of this can be found on our 2009 pictures page.

Danish Brotherhood member and former National President Woody Petersen has been interviewed by Chicago television station channel 7 on their "Someone you should know" segment.  Click on the following link to view the episode.  http://abclocal.go.com/wls/channel?section=news/someone_you_should_know&id=5755452

Now available - Ębleskiver pans!  We now have a source for new ębleskiver pans that can be used to produce large quantities of "balls" for Danish breakfast fundraisers.  Using these pans for our breakfasts, we have been able to serve over 800 meals in less than 4 hours. The pans are made of cast aluminum with a flat bottom and 30 holes on the top, and having a raised edge around the perimeter.  Grills are not included, but can be easily constructed - and we can supply pictures of the ones we have made.  These pans have allowed us to replace our aging cast iron pans that have served us well, but were very heavy.  Cost per pan is $125.00 plus shipping.  Pictures of the pans are below.

A brand new Skandinavian Resource has been discovered - SkagenHus in Williams Bay just west of Lake Geneva which features a gift shop filled with ethnic items from the north, as well as a Danish Tea room loaded with delicious open face sandwiches and other items.  Their website is www.Skagenhus.com .  If you visit, tell them you heard about them from the Danish Brotherhood!

We've been recognized!  The July 2008 edition of the Woodmen of the World / Assured Life Association has a very nice article about our Lodge!  We are also listed first on the Fraternal Link Links section.  Click here to see what they say.

The Lodge would like to thank John Schacht, owner of Airaware in Racine for the donation of a new "smoke eater" / air purifier for the Rathskeller.  The unit has been installed and wired and is operating.  Visit the Rathskeller on Friday afternoons and evenings to inspect our newest addition to the building.

Now Available at the Lodge - Copies of our very own 100th Aniversary Celebration (previously available only on VHS tape) have now been "burned" to DVD and are available for borrowing.  This is the beginning of the conversion of many historic tapes that the Lodge has owned (one of our best kept secrets).  More DVDs will follow, including topics such as Denmark travelogs and documentaries on "The Vikings".  The 100th Aniversary DVDs are available both in the directors cut versions and the 1/2 hour show that was shown on local cable. These DVDs can checked out for viewing from the Lodge office.

To planet Earth I bid WELCOME!  This website has been a labor of love for the last few months. While it is "up and running", it will be in constant change as additions, corrections and improvements are made. I would appreciate if you would leave comments to me about the site - good or bad. I am always open to constructive criticism as my first concern is that this page is the best that can be published. I would like to thank the Board of Directors of Lodge #14 for their support for this project and especially would like to thank my daughter Jennifer for her help and patience in guiding me through the process of creating this page. I hope this website will both inform and entertain you.
